| PABX running on PC over LAN |
| message from tony sayer on 23 Jun 2005 |
Anyone here had any operational experience of such products as Swyx or
VoIPspeed these are programmes that run on a PC to replace a
conventional PABX service and use the PC with a headset/handset as the
phone?..
TIA

Hi Tony
soft PBXs have been arond for many years now. IP based soft PBXs for the
last 5 or so, I have looked at swyx at trade shows and it seems p with the
rest. What you need to remember is all softpbxs are meant to run on Server
grade system not PC grade.
But as to your assumption on phones you are a bit off the mark, yes a Client
can be run on a PC but the norm i business is to use IPPhones, dependant on
the protocol they may be SIP based or tid to that makers system. But saying
that more makers are making SIP/own protocol phones now.
Hope that helps
Ian
