| Line Emulator? |
| message from Dr. Compynei on 26 Jun 2005 |
Hi,
We are after a telephone line emulator for our PBX System.
I've been told that because we have two incoming lines yet only use one, we
could plug the second one into a line emulator and then into a PA. So from a
handset, dialling 9 would get you an outside line, and dialing 8 would get
you the PA system (this is how our PBX works).
Can anyone recommend a product? Or a correct name for one? I've googled but
can't find anything.
Would be most useful for our theatre.
Thanks very much

Depending on what type of PBX it is, it may well have a paging output as
standard, which can be connected to a PA system.

No it doesn't. BT MiniMaster 3.
Hey, we are only an amatuer theatre!

Hi
just sold 2 skutch line emulators on ebay :-(. You may though need to speak
to your pager company to find out what interface they want? or whether they
make an interface unit.

We don't have a pager company! What I'm looking for is something that
emulates the line, and outputs it in XLR, Phono or Jack plug format!

Unfortunately, a PBX>PA interface probably costs about the same as
replacing the Minimaster 3 with something like a Panasonic off ebay.
If this is for backstage paging on the cheap I'd suggest a cheap
answering machine on one of the extension ports, take the speaker output
into a PA amp (possibly via an attenuator). Record a 'ding dong' as the
outgoing message on the ans machine. Might not be elegant enough for
front of house.
Viking Electronics (USA) do a variety of phone>paging interfaces if you
want to look at what's available. Not cheap (and not approved for UK use).
If you only need paging from a couple of locations, just wire in mikes
to the paging amp. Balanced low-Z mikes will run for tens of metres
without problem.
Incidentally, isn't the Minimaster 31 and 32 for specific line access,
not 8 and 9?

Thanks, perhaps you could make a recommendation?
It certinatley wouldn't! We use two way radios backstage, it is of course
for front of house and general theatre use.
Thanks. Would one of these work though?
The idea is from any phone point, so not really an option
Apologies, so it is.

The KXTA 624 has recently been discontinued so should be cheap-ish. It's
basic configuration is 3+8, so a fairly close match to the MM3 if you
can parallel up 2 extns. Or you can add a +8 extn card. You need a
keyphone for programming, and phones with time-break recall for extns.

Ebay.co.uk item numbers may be of interest. I have no connection with /
experience of the sellers.

I think it would.
