BT DECT 4016 handset question
message from Roger on 24 Jun 2005
Hello, I hope this is an appropriate place to seek advice on this, but
please disregard if not.

I've been using a DECT 4016 Executive for a couple of years and in the past
few days it has developed a problem whereby it won't talk to the base.

The base is working ok from the point of view that it's taking voicemail
messages and allowing me to access them remotely. However, the handset's
display will no longer display "INT 1" as it did, but is displaying "Base
1".

BT's helpdesk has talked me through a reset of the base and handset, by
holding in the reset button underneath and entering the PIN into the handset
but it doesn't work.

After leaving the batteries out overnight and unplugging the base, I've
managed to get it to work again, but only for a few minutes. The battery
strength is showing full, but after sometimes after charging, it remains on
low, but after switching the handset off and on again, it goes back to full.

Is there a common problem here that I'm experiencing? If so, perhaps it
would save me sending it away and being without it!

Thanks for any help!

Executive,

They're certainly still available. I recently bought a second base
station and handset from spot-on-deals on Ebay for GBP38 including
delivery.

When did you last fit new batteries ?
the ni-cd s die after a while. you can get replacements from Maplin or CPC.

Also unless its covered by a warrenty then its not realy worth repairing,
the repair cost will proberly be more than the cost of a new Dect set.

Certainly from looking at the strength meter, they appear to hold their
charge, but I did wonder. They're not ni-cads in fact; metal hydrydes have
been in the phone since new.

If I keep the phone in the charger, it doesn't allow me to use it like
before and yet it will be receiving charge from the base. I'm pretty sure
it enabled me to dial while it was in the base before.

If I need to buy a new one, what's the best replacement? Are they still
made?

Thanks for that Dave.

There is a 4000 handset on e-bay I'm looking at. Do you know if that will
work with my 4016 Executive base?

Thanks!
