| WWW using Nokia 6610i GPRS |
| message from Colin MacDougall on 26 Jun 2005 |
I have tried ( unsuccessfully ) to connect to the internet using the
'connect to internet' option that comes with Nokia PC Suite -
this is through the DKU 5 cable. This is connecting my PC
through a GPRS connection - NOT using the WAP browser
over GPRS.
I haven't been able to find much information about setting up
the PC and phone to allow this. My network operator is Tesco,
but when I spoke to them they seemed to think it was the WAP
settings I needed. I can also use an O2 SIM if it's any easier to
set up a connection through them.
It's just out of curiosity that I'm trying this, I've been told that
the fastest connection I'm likely to get is 128 Kbps.
Anyone tried and had luck doing this before ?
Thanks,
Colin

More like 43.2 kpbs.
I do it every day, but not on tesco mobile.

Tesco doesn't seem to provide full internet access but instead just the WAP
ports are available.
I can connect using Tesco on my laptop but Internet Explorer doesn't work.
I installed the Nokia Mobile Browser Emulator and can successfully browse
WAP and (some) XHTML sites but the browser doesn't support JPG images - only
GIF and WBMP images can be displayed - so browsing WAP sites is a dull
experience.
If you have an O2 email account then you should be able to send and receive
emails using Tesco - but i found no other email accounts would work.
Martin.

If you look on Nokia's web site, lookup that phone and check the support
page for it. I think you dial out *99#, I've done it in the past using
Infrared on a laptop and 6100 but I used a wizard!
