Orange block firmware updates (Sony K750i)
message from purple pete on 23 Jun 2005
Trying to do the firmware update on my K750i and get the following message
"Your device is not permitted to use this service

Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this
device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service!"

What feckers eh! Would getting phone unlocked resolve this and allow
me to update firmware?

Not at present, no. the message is a bit misleading - the Sony
Ericsson Update Service is currently not working with any K750i
(unbranded or branded with any network) as they discovered problems
with the updated firmware, whereby (particularly for O2 customers) the
GPRS stopped working.

before they stopped the updates, I successfully updated my Orange
handset to the latest firmware using the SEUS, so it's not Orange's
fault.

so if you wait until the new firmware is fixed, hopefully it will work
again.

Like KQ says, it may work when SEUS is up again, although knowing
Orange, they may specifically block it.

That's interesting. I used SEUS earlier this week and have been using
GPRS as normal (albeit I'm not an extensive user by any means). The
phone does not seem to be buggy.

Well..it seems O2 GPRS isn't working for me. I'll verify the settings
again first before calling O2.

Ahh Thanks for that - I take it all back ;-) Thought it was part of the
"Branding" and " we dont trust customers to start messing around with their
phones in this way".

No.
