| Nokia Clock Screensaver |
| message from Jules on 22 Jun 2005 |
Can anyone tell me any current Nokia models that don't have the
display turn to a clock in car-kit mode? I just want to be able to
drive along and occasionally check the signal meter etc without having
to press a button.

I might be wrong but I thought you could turn the "screensaver" off

You could on the 3410, but the newer ones only have a timeout option of
60 minutes - no off.

Just press a button once an hour to keep it off. Not too difficult I would
have thought..?

On my 6230i there's a screensaver on/off option (has nothing to do with the
clock as far as i can see), and a 'power save' option.
I'm just having a look at the 6230i manual....
Success! The 'power save' mode IS the clock and it can be turned off... I've
done it now.
Yippee!
Also a very good phone too :-)

So finally, it is possible to have a phone that shows the signal meter
all the time without that clock coming on all the time? You have
managed to permanently switch the clock off?

Yes BUT what if the phone behaves differently when in a car-kit? I couldn't
check, as I don't have a car-kit. Without it it's fine though, so it would
make sense to me that it doesn't change when in a car-kit, but that's not a
promise. Even if you emailed nokia about it they'd either not reply in any
decent length of time, or they'd just say 'yeah it'll work'.
Time to find someone with a car-kit

By the way, get the nokia 6230i PDF from http://www.nokia.co.uk and look up
pages 30 & 91 - it's there. It also does work just had a go...

I suppose thats a work-around - but its kind of like looking down at
your wrist only to find you're not wearing a watch - even tho it's no
big thing to have to look somewhere else, it just seems really annoying
at the time!
