| Motorola V3 for a Nokia user |
| message from Bealers on 28 Jun 2005 |
Hi
It's that upgrade time of the year and I'm thinking about getting a V3
as it has BT/GPRS (a pre-requisite for me) and looks nice.
I've mainly bought Nokia before and am used to their UI etc, so I'm
wary about the switch over. Hence I was wondering if anyone had any
stories good or bad?
Also, what is the sync software that comes with it like? Can it sync
over BT?
TIA
Darren

Just rolled a number of these out at work.. Things to be aware of:
Battery life isnt great
Had to return three due to the fact that once they had switched off due to
battery running out, they wouldnt sitch back on
The software supplied blows goats. Its a crippled version of the full
software, and doesnt allow you to synch with Outlook, even if the Help file
says you can. You have to buy the full version for this.
Its also a bit of a slag to get connected the first time. Once it recognises
the phone, it seems to work OK afterwards..
Other than that, if you can get round the changeover in UI, then theyre
fine... though not as small as they first seem!

Why is it that top-posters are generally biased and clueless idiots (as so
amply demonstrated here by Neil)?
The V3 is a stunning phone providing it fits your requirements. If you want
a handset with all the bells and whistles look elsewhere - if you want a
well built solid performing handset (a good looking one as well) to function
for making phone calls, the occassional text message and basic calendar
functions the it fits the bill perfectly. The included software is
reasonably good, but you relly need to upgrade to the full product
(available fairly cheaply) for full functionality.
Oh yes, it synchs over BT just fine as well.

I had been considering a RAZR replacement for my SE T630 to work with my new
BMW 3 series (largely 'cause I like the looks of the RAZR) but was advised
that it simply didn't synchronise well with Outlook and so decided against
it. Is it the case that a simple software upgrade would answer this problem
(in which case I might reconsider)?

Be careful! The integrated BMW BT car kits are well known for being
reluctant to work properly with anything other than the phones that they're
listed to work with.
Doesn't everyone?
I used to synch address and calendar details without any problem, but TBH it
wasn't a crucial decision maker for me and was only used very occasionally.

don't bother me what you think. My opinion of the v3 is that it is crap. A
friend has one and regrets getting it. UI crap, only able to send cam pix
via mms only and not bt is crap. It don't support delivery reports(orange)
unless you put rct in.
Looks nice, usability crap!!!!

How many times are you going to cut and paste (top-posting at that) the same
totally inaccurate rubbish?

Okay, quite untrue, but i personally prefer the 6230i now that it's out. v3
vs 6230 made the v3 the winner in my opinion, but it's got some minor
niggles that may get on your nerves.
I never did sync with it, but from what i read of the software manual it
sounds easy.
Someone i know bought one and loved it, someone else hated it. Depends on
your easiness to adapt to a new interface if you're used to boring
bog-standard Nokias since their hay-day; try it out though when you're next
in town, it's pretty sleek.

Thats yours opinion. It's different to Nokia but perfectly fine.
Wrong, it's not obvious but you use the COPY feature to COPY them to a
bluetooth device.
That nothing to do with the phone, My T-mobile one supports reciepts.
Don't blame the phone for SP phone butchering creating problems
Mines great, only thing I wish it has was Infra red to sync easier
with the laptop bit overall it's fine.

Shame your opinion is wrong then (and only based on anecdotal evidence).
No, just different.
Eh? It sends pictures fine over BlueTooth.
Which would still make it ten times better than any Nokia implementation.
Don't blame the phone for a problem that lies firmly at Orange's door.
No, nice looks, and perfectly usable. My main bugbear with the V3 is the
pitiable amount of memory - apart from that it's just about spot on for the
purpose intended.
