| K750i PDF and Office reader ?? |
| message from Guildford-Unit on 29 Jun 2005 |
Have had the K750i for the last 3 weeks, what can I say apart from pure
class. They have thought of almost every thing.
A couple of nice applications for the phone would be Word / PDF viewer.
Anyone know if there is anything like that out for the phone ? Even an
ebook reader would be a start.
Also I can not seem to fast forward movies, not an issue for small
(couple of Mb) clips. However when playing longer clips it can be a
real pain. Is there any short cut to be able to do this?
My phone is Vodafone branded.
Thanks in advance,
Dom

I don't think that java applications allowing you to view PDF/word files
exists for series 40 phones (I'm aware it's a Sony Ericsson, but it's the
same idea, it's not symbian!) - i'd love to be proved wrong though, the
6230i could do with one...

Since Java applcations are not allowed to access the phone's file system
(unless the manufacturer has provided a device specific API to do so),
there is no real hope to see that. The only possible thing to do would be
to have an application that downloads PDF/Office files from the Web via
GPRS and then open them. But that would be way too slow and expensive. And
when you see how slow are the PDF/Office document readers on some
smartphones, i doubt that a basic phone would have enough power to run such
kind of applications. Get a symbian phone :-)

AFAIK only Palm phones using Picsel, some Microsoft Smartphones and certain
Symbian phones can natively open PDF files.
If you are using Palm phones like the Treos you have to use the Picsel
browser for native access as the one Adobe provides for free requires
conversion on the PC first!
The K750i seems quite powerful for a non-smartphone phone, so in theory
someone could write a PDF viewer for it. It might be a bit slow, but from a
techy point of view it could be done IMHO.
