I dont pretend to understand mobile phones. I am a bit long in the
tooth but they are handy.

Questions

Do all SIM Cards work in all phones? I have a few old phones here that
have been given to me by members of my family as they upgraded. Is it
just as simple as putting in a new card or are there security issues I
know nothing about?

I just want to put a PAYG SIM Card in and give the phone to my son who
keeps 'borrowing' my phone!

I saw an Orange PAYG SIM in Tescos for about a tenner. Any other
places?

Cheers.

Yes but a guarded yes. Many / most? mobile phones are "locked" by
default so that they only work with the network that they were
originally issued by/with (for example, Orange). Nearly all mobile
phones can be unlocked to work with any network by your friendly guy
on your local market and his laptop, for a fee of £5 or so.

Really really old phones won't work with modern sim cards but phones
released in the last several years should be fine. (7 years? anyone?)

you might want to reset the phone so that the new owner doesn't have
the contact details or other things left in from the previous owner,
no other security issues I can think of.

keep an eye out on ebay

Cheers
