GPRS Roaming
message from halfbob on 30 Jun 2005
Hi,

I want to email lots of 'photos home on my UK SPV C500 from South Africa,
but Orange want to charge £25/Mb via their Vodacom partner (as opposed to
£1/Mb on my UK plan).

Can buy a South African Vodacom PAYG SIM in UK from www.0044.co.uk but they
tell me it won't provide GPRS (nor, presumably, would any PAYG SIM bought in
S.A.).

Any other way of getting cheaper GPRS access when abroad?

Thanks

PS. I know I'll need to get the C500 unlocked if swapping SIM's

borrow a local contract SIM if PAYG doesn't provide GPRS. Getting
someone to sign up for a contract for you could be cost effective if
you have to use GPRS.

Generally using GPRS abroad is like smoking currency.

I believe that Virgin Mobile charge the same for GPRS roaming as for the UK
....that's about £5/Mb
