| 3 quality of voice calls in London ? |
| message from Richard on 28 Jun 2005 |
How is the quality of 3 for voice only calls in Central and suburban London
?
Is there generally any reason to avoid them for bog standard voice / text
usage in urban areas ?

As a PS - Can a 3 SIM card be used in a normal 2g phone ?

Yes some phones allow 3 USIM's to be used. Sadly 3 dont and will block the
USIM if you use it in a non-3 supplied handset. (They can tell what you are
using by the IMEI which is transmitted when a device logs onto a network.
Voice calling suffers from some latency on 3 and in my area there is still a
lot of calls dropping and failure to connect messages. Might be better in
London now.... check www.reviewcentre.co.uk and see what folks say there.

Um, voice calls suffer from latency on all mobile networks. 3's is the same
as everyone else's.

I expeience much worse latency on 3's UMTS than on GSM networks. Could be
where I am but its quite annoying and seems to be dependent on the time of
day. Its very noticeable around teatime for some reason. When I get too much
latency on 3 I just hang up and redial, should'nt have to but usually cures
the problem.
