| Wireless Internet in Villages North Lincs. |
| message from The Biscuit on 19 Jun 2003 |
Well BT looks like you got competition in North Lincolnshire!!
I've been waiting to get Broadband in my village for ages and don't want to
wait years to get it.
This site www.northlincsbroadband.org.co.uk is gathering information to
supply the wireless internet operator www.wrbb.net for internet users in
North Lincolnshire. Looking at this form of access to the internet it allows
access speeds of... get this... 11mbs-54mbs !!!! Cost seems reasonable to at
£10 - £44 for home users. Plus due to the nature of Wireless communication
you could roam with a laptop within a 15km radius of any of there
transmitters!! Superb for any business!!!
Hope they start bunging these transmitters up all over the country and BT's
hold on all broadband will be over!

But don't forget the NIMBY factor .... Not In My Back Yard.
As it is, cell phones operators wishing to improve the coverage of their
networks often have to contend with months/years of wrangling with folks
who do not want masts sited near where they live or 'spoiling' the view in
nearby countryside - and often lose out to the pressure groups. Even the
police forces around the country who want to improve the coverage of their
own networks with a more effective and efficient radio system (forget its
name) have run into the NIMBY lobbyists. People expect 'instant' response
from the police but often are not prepared to allow them the means to meet
these expectations.
Living in rural Suffolk with little chance of getting broadband I am not
against wireless internet but from the NIMBY lobbyists active here, do not
anticipate any wireless internet operator would find their plans going
through
without some opposition.
