| Registration Levels |
| message from Bill on 26 Sep 2002 |
Good to see that the advertising has landed for broadband. Also good to note
that a measure has been placed on the BT Broadband site so that one can
monitor the demand levels and the trigger for each exchange awaiting upgrade
for ADSL.
All of the above is good but I suspect more publicity effort is required to
get customers to register interest more quickly. A good idea would be to put
a flyer in the next phone-bill and distribute it to those areas which are on
the working list.
I have spoken to 4 other Internet users in my area and whilst they had
visited the BT Openworld site to check availability they had not registered
their interest in broadband. Perhaps BT also need to consider a much bigger
hyperlink on the site as the current simple text message is very easy to
miss.
Another idea might for BT Openworld and other ISP's who service customers in
working list areas to contact their subscribers by e-mail and let them know
what the current availability status is and what the have to do to influence
the roll out. I registered with BT Openworld early last year and to date
have had only one confirmation e-mail - and that was nearly 18 months ago!

There is already a mention of the pre-registration system in the current
issue of Update which advertises http://www.bt.com/btbroadband (which is run
by BT Retail who issue the phone bills - its not BT Openworld)
BT Retail plan to launch a £23million advertising campaign for their
broadband product - in addition to the £10 million BT Wholesale is currently
spending trying to raise the profile of adsl generally.
See http://www.btplc.com/Mediacentre/Archivenewsreleases/2002/nr0249.htm for
more details
Good idea - just one thing, if you registered 18 months ago - register again
The current pre registration system only counts people who have registered
since July 2002.

Can't find this, can you quote the URL for a page showing current
demand levels?
