New Virus Found 30/9 Be Warned!
message from CJ on 1 Oct 2002
Hi,

just logged on this morning and I had what looked like a genuine e-mail that I thought was
sent by someone in error giving me a UK address to send babies clothes to. My McAfee
(updated over the weekend) did not say anything was suspect but obviously I deleted the
mail anyway. Looking at the 24 hour helpdesk there was a report of a very new virus only
found on the 30/09. McAfee had another update luckily and this picked up the little
bugger! See http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99728.htm for description of virus. It is
W32/Bugbear@MM .
So please update your Anti Virus software now to catch this.

I was sent Bugbear by my brother.

Fortunately the latest version of Norton picked it up

It is rough when you are infected by your own family isn't it ?

The spams have seriously started happening containing this virus. NAV
has been in overdrive for the past hour.

Good call :-)
Worh making sure your anti-virus software includes a sandbox, if not I can
say that Tiny Trojan Trap work just fine having tested it for 2 weeks now.

Anyone with F-Secure should know this =D I'm just testing it and its BackWeb
feature popped up a little Virus news alert message yesterday about
Bugbear/Tanatos e-mail worm. So far its looking good! High rate of
detection, higher than others I've tried so far, including Norton and
Mcafee, but I guess thats not too hard.

AWM replied to doslnmd on 1 Oct 2002
Never been much keen on either of the 2 big names, I guess I am prejudiced
against Norton because of the performance problems some of the other system
tune up software they sell causes on some of my clients machines..
Used to like Dr Solomons before he got bought out.
