| ADSL PCI modem |
| message from scofer on 5 Aug 2003 |
Hi,
Anyone know why I cant get an internal pci ADSL modem (ADSL runner) to
connect to btopenworld?
I click on the dial up icon, and get verifying username and password and it
comes back with a "remote computer didnt answer" error message or something
similar.
I know my account and login/password details are fine as I have regularly
used it on a usb modem and an adsl router before now.
Thanks.

Many thanks for the prompt replies. Your suggestions cured my problem.
Changing the vci setting to 38 worked a treat.
Thanks

You need to follow the correct order for installing drivers and modem -
With a PCI modem you put the modem in first then supply the drivers
when windows asks for them.
If you have installed the modem using the modem CD, then the details for
the connection, are:
telephone number - doesn't matter - anything will do
allow server assigned addresses and DNS addresses
ATM Virtual Path (VPI) = 0
ATM Virtual Circuit (VCI) = 38 (that's an important one - some modems
default to 37)
Encapsulation type = VC/MUX
Username - as supplied in your introductory email username@hg*.bt
whatever domain you use - the hg number will be in your introductory
email.
password - ditto
Hope that helps

A friend of mine had the same problem, the driver default to a vpi,vci
setting
of 0 and 35, and it needs to be 0 and 38. If you havent changed that
setting,
its hidden. Open control panel, open access runner, press ALT + C
together and you should get extra menus listed, from there you can change
the above setting, after doing so it should connect.
