The pipes running down the outside of the walls may not be soil pipes, they may only be rain water pipes from the guttering on the roof. What diameter of pipes are they ? Anything less than 110 mm in diameter and they are rain water drainage. ... (more) |

If the pipes are going to take hot water around the system, then drain it down as much as possible so you can install a soldered joint. I am about to replace the flat roof of my house front canopy with a pitched roof. The existing canopy is covered by lead, it is approx. 14 ft x 2 ft (28 sq feet) and I am told it is "6lb lead". The old cast iron pipes would crack after a freeze. This is highly unlikely to happen on a plastic stack. Water inside may freeze but it will not fracture the pipe. Also it takes a real heavy freeze to block a drain. Although a trickle leak down it will build up and block the drain. ... (more) |

Should do 10, which is also about the time you should change the whole alarm. Some smoke alarms with lithium batteries are not intended to be able to replace the battery for this reason. My oldest smoke alarms are just at 10 years now... ... (more) |

Tight enough so it doesn't weep, but not so tight that the pipe is distorted... A decent rule of thumb is around 1 1/2 turns from finger tight. A ... (more) |

If the joint is in alignment and clean there is a very definate point at which the nut begins to bite. I'd reckon on 4 flats (2/3 turn) from that point. That would be around the same as 1/2 turn from hand tight as you say. ... (more) |
