Re: Fathers 4 Justice

More to the point, why crosspost this to a whole bunch of newsgroups that
it's not relevant to?

However, I'll bite, since I'm a fan of debates on contentious issues.

I know from personal experience that Fathers 4 Justice, like any pressure
group, will act first and think later. They will seek as much attention as
possible through doing as outrageous, dumb, strange, ironic stunts as they
can possibly come up with. It matters little whether they look stupid so
long as they are noticed.

I used to work next door to a Cafcas office, and there were several
occasions where F4J gave long, loud, annoying demonstrations outside. Plus,
on at least one occasion, there were bomb threats, and the army bomb
disposal guys had been called out. Another occasion, a dimwit F4J guy
mistook us for the Cafcas office and stuck a brick through the window,
together with half-empty beer can.

Their cause is just, but nothing to do with me. There is no use upsetting
innocent bystanders, it will do a cause no good whatsoever. Disrupting
traffic and hurling flour at the prime minister? Not a good way to win
support. Publicity perhaps, but not support.

Steenkin Man replied to owen on 20 May 2004
If their cause is just then it concerns everyone.

owen replied to Steenkin Man on 20 May 2004
Nope. It doesnt concern me. I'm an innocent bystander.

"All it takes for bad men to succeed is for good men to do nothing" (or
something like that).

Hopefully, when they come for you, you'll remember all the people that
you DIDN'T stand for.

So, literally everybody (or every 'good man') is morally obliged to stand up
and support Fathers 4 Justice??? Bollocks.

I broadly agree with an independant Ireland, that doesnt mean I should
support the IRA.

I love animals and dispise the idea of testing on animals for cosmetics.
Doesn't mean I should support those who beat up employees with baseball bats
or throw acid on their cars or threaten their families.

I need to support not just the cause, but the methods too. See?

I cannot support anyone who targets *innocent* people just to get attention.
And that's exactly what Fathers 4 Justice do.

Owen

I was referring to their many previous "stunts" where they've disrupted
traffic and caused inconvenience, disturbance and criminal damage to people
who've nothing to do with them or their cause.

So your didn't read about the David Chick('Spiderman') trial and
the role of the police in the traffic disruption I assume?

Steenkin Man replied to Philip Lewis on 22 May 2004
David Chick wasn't even above a road, as I remember. He was above a
building site. There was no need to stop traffic, the authorities
blocked the roads to prevent sympathy for his cause. Good job the jury
weren't fooled.

I was watching the live 'Prime Ministers Question Time' when the
'purple flour' incident happened - the two main protaginists were
trying to outdo each other with 'fish jokes' and jibes about
'oyster bars' - in fact after the incident it was reported that
Tony Blair was miffed because he had a witty riposte' in reserve
that he never got chance to use. Now please reflect on how much
of our taxpayers money is spent on these 'comedians' - these very
same 'comedians' (and comic Tony Blair in particular!) that were
pissed off and 'inconveinienced' by a timely reminder that there
are some very serious (but IGNORED) issues out there that are
directly connected to social stability and the whole picture
takes on a very different perspective!!

| Parliament is not a suitable plaice for fish jokes ...

I agree, they tend to 'skate' over the issues...
