Whitelist
Yes, I know that and I also know they had in mind a united Marxist
Communist Ireland. FWIW I also believe that the end of the troubles
had more than anything to do with the fall of communism all over
europe. This brought about a sea change not only in the IRA but also
amongst the politicians in the Irish Republic. Just like Gaddaffi's
recent death-bed repentance.
At one time shooting at British soldiers in Ulster from across the
border in The Republic was just punished by a derisory fine, if at
all. Certainly the coming of the European Union which lavished
unimaginable financial benefits on the Irish Republic like there was
no tomorrow if they'd just roll over like good neighbours in the
"European Union" tempered the issuance of quite so much "Green Steam",
in fact nowadays we seem to have much bigger isues with Spain over
Gibraltar.
Indeed some NI catholics told me in 1970 they were happy that their
grievances had been addressed, and they'd be happy to give it a
another chance. *BUT* you might note my post (which was about the
House Of Commons incident) mentioned *40* years ago . :-)
40 years remember, "B" specials, discrimination in Local Authority
Housing, discrimination in employment, a "Business Vote" system that
gave businesses (mostly loyalist) additional votes. Under
representation in the (Some would say sectarian) police force.
This gave some old school, old Irish, Catholic Priests here in the UK
the opportuniuty to peddle the idea that Catholics in Ulster had "No
Vote". God only knows what poisonous hate was being peddled in
Northern Ireland. Remember Maire Drumm? AKA Grandma Death!
My point is you don't do it, don't go there. Problems like the
disenfranchised fathers, need to be addressed so we can all move on.
Otherwise a protest movement will start (Too late already!) which may
be hijacked by opportunists.
That's one of my points.
