Cable locator

message from romic on 10 May 2004
The post re stud finder has reminded me that I need to get a cable finder.

I don't need the stud finding capabilities, just one that will accurately
find cables - preferably live 240v and other cables such as network/phone
cables (if such a thing is possible).

I've used a couple in the past, but have not been impressed with their
accuracy. Any recommendations?

I have the screwfix one will when set right detect 4 core telephone
cable at about 8/10 mm away would no doubt be more for 6 core, sat/tv
co-ax about 15 mm away and mains cables about 45 mm away Said tests
done on live cables.
15mm copper pipe about 15mm away

Did try a stanley all purpose all singing one and found it was
bleeping all over the place saying metal plaster board srews etc was
cable etc etc I like the screwfix type as you can adjust the
sensitivity yourself

It also comes with stud detector very useful when have remembered to
put blocking behind plaster board for shower rail but didnt remember
to note down where exactly you had put it !!!

Hope above info helps and could provide reference for other posters to
list the sensitivity of other models
