windows xp home edition operating system does not start

when i switch on my PC, i get 2 options of windows XP home edition. i generally chose the first one. nowadays it does not open windows instead it gives me 5 options whether to start in safe mode,sstart normally,start with the best restore point,safe mode with networking etc. and for anyption i chose the computer runs the system scan & then restarts.i have a OEM mentioned on the operating syatem number.
at present i am chatting using my second option of windows xp home edition.i have recently subcribed & downloaded mc afee virus scan & removed 27 viruses from my computer.
can anyone help i have a lot of data at present on my 1st option which i am accessing through my second option windows xp home edition.
please help solve this problem
