windows xp problem

message from butz68 on 31 May 2004
my hard drive crashed and hand a new drive installed and
all the information was ghosted over to the new drive. I
am now receiving a msg from microsoft that windows xp
needs to be reinitialized. I do not have the key for re
loading windows xp b/c this was my dad's computer and he
gave it to me and no longer has the key for this version
of windows xp. What can I do?

call MS and explain the problem. they should be able to help.

I always write the keys on my disks to always have them handy. They may be somehow on the disk (or should be to avoid problems like yours)
