unable to load XP pro for first time

i have recently built a computer, and i have been trying to load XP Pro, i can get the OS to install, and when it goes to restart the computer for the first time it comes up with an error message saying - error loading operating system -, i originally thought something was wrong with the hard drive because i was getting data is corrupt or damaged error messages the first time, but i did a low level format on the drive and that fixed that, any help would be greatly appreciated
