i have a similar problem to this
''I am running Windows XP home edition. Suddenly I have a
situation where, every time the computer boots up, the
search assistant appears on the right of the taskbar and
many of the quick launch icons on the left are not
visible. I right click and get rid of it but when I boot
up again it comes back. Each time I have to get rid of it
then unlock the taskbar and reveal the "missing" quick
launch icons. Its driving me mad:-( Has anyone any ideas
how to fix this please? The PC suddenly started doing
this. I don't recall doing anything to cause it. Many
thanks in anticipation.'''

except i am on prfessional , the same problem occours where search assitant come up after a re boot , and quick luanch come up, my prefernece is with only with my WMP tool bar, this doesnt come up

i have to keep changing every time i re boot , if any can solve this problem please add me on msn messenger, (xbsax@msn.com) because i am more likey to be online than , looking at this web site

hi,

this isn't a true fix and it may or may not fix prob, more of a work around!

Start run regedit
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ CabinetState Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > String Value
Name the new value and type in "Use Search Asst" without quotation marks
Double-click this new value, and enter "no" without quotation makrs as it's Value data
Close the registry editor

Thanks

Lavan

Then reboot
