remote access

Hi,

Is it true that WinXP Professional lets one connect remotely from a client
computer (to get access to files on the host computer) outside the LAN of
the host computer? If so, what is the setup procedue? Do I have to download
IIS onto the host computer? Does this work via firewalls (each for client
and host) ? I heard of a program called VNC. Does this work through
firewalls? Thank you.
