problems with modem after upgrading to XP Pro |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?TGluazMwOQ==?= on 2 Jun 2004 |
A few days ago, I upgraded my computer from Windows 98 to XP Pro. When I tried to get on the internet (I use AOL), a message came saying that my modem is not plugged in. When I went to Device Manager, my modem was listed as an "Other Device", and there was a question mark beside it. When I uninstalled Windows XP and restored Windows 98, the modem worked again. Can someone tell me what's going on?

OK. I'll tell you :) ... AOL is the worst ISP in the world. But it's not related to your problem.
After upgrading to XP you need to make sure that all devices are properly recognized and installed. You can't have something listed as "Other Device", and expect it to work.
In other words: Download XP version of the driver for you modem from the manufacturer website, and install the modem properly.
Most likely you'll need to run some sort of "connection wizard" in AOL to show it the "new" modem.
Good Luck!

You need to install a XP compatible driver for the modem. Jym
