missing dll file

message from Keith Farmer on 1 Jun 2004
On start-up a window pops up saying; c:\WINDOWS\System32\mshtmpre.dll
cannot load this module.

Any ideas where I can locate this 'dll file', how do I re-install it?
Everything seems to be working ok, so do I need to re-install? If not how
do I get rid of this window?

Any help would be appreciated. Needs to be in plain English and simple to
follow. Dohhhh!!!!!

go to the pest patrol site or enter the name "mshtmpre.dll" at Google and you'll see it's not a microsoft file. btw- did you ever work in Texas? I replaced a guy named keith farmer in Baytown.

Hi,

This is a bad file, you need to unregister it.

From:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/m/mshtmpre.asp

Unregister DLLs:

Unregister these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot:

Start > Run regsvr32 /u mshtmpre.dll

Reboot

Remove Files:

Remove these files (if present) with Windows Explorer:

mshtmpre.dll

Use a firewall, also ad-aware and spybot to keep away these pests.

Hope this helps

This is not a necessary file by any means. it was put there by a "hijacker" program. If you used pest patrol or spybot search and destroy or other similar programs, they removed the files but didn't remove the reference in the registry. It might be something as simple as running "msconfig" and unchecking the reference in the startup routine.
