| "SERIOUS ERROR RECOVERY" (by =?Utf-8?B?TW9sbHlzcGF1c2U=?= on 1 Jun 2004, 1 reply) |
|---|
| Hellllllllllllllp. I continually get a "system has recovered from a serious error" message right after I crash of course. I send the error report to Microsoft and the results is a message that says the problem is my Synaptics touchpad does not have a current driver. Microsoft gives me a link to Synaptics, which in turn tells me to get my driver from Gateway. Gateway has me do a troubleshoot using Synaptics' system built into my computer, and of course, it asks me if I want a Synaptics update. When I click for the update, I am told that there is no better driver than the one I have. And so, I am in this endless loop of system recovery, microsoft claiming it's Synaptics, and Synaptics saying my driver is already current. Any ideas? Please email me and know that I am not a hardware specialist:) I have about had it with windows XP and wish to God I could go back to Windows 98. ... (more) |

| Many of us here where I work experience the same problem. We are running up to date and virus free Windows 2000 and Windows XP pro. Our computers are on a lan with internet access. The W2000 computer on my desk (1.5 Ghz, 512 Mb memory) works reasonably, but if I logon to another computer on the network (using my same login group and name) it takes about 5 minutes for it to "load my personal settings", whatever that means. I might expect it to be slow the first time it does this (loads my settings accross the network) but it take five minutes every time I log onto that machine. A 30 second delay is unacceptable, 1.5 to five minutes is rediculous. ... (more) |

I've just installed Norton Internet Security software on my PC (2.6 GHz) with Win XP Home Edition and although it is clearly installed, it doesn't run. I thought maybe I had some spy/adware or something that might be causing some interference and so I downloaded and installed Spybot. It too doesn't work, although it works on my other computer! I then tried installing Ad-aware and it too doesn't work when I try to run it. Other software (ie. Wordperfect, or games, etc...) work fine. It seems that just my anti-virus, anti-spyware software is not working for some reason. Does this sound like some virus which is going undetected? I might add that I can run all of the Symantec removal tools successfully without any problem. It's just the apps that won't run. When I try to run them, the hour glass flashes for a second or two as though the app is going to load, but nothing happens and I remain at the desktop. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance, Statman ... (more) |

| Windows XP autoplay doesn't recognize .jpg photo files (by =?Utf-8?B?SG93YXJk?= on 1 Jun 2004, 2 replies) |
|---|
| I have one windows XP computer whichs fails to recognize .jpg photo files when Windows autoplay runs on the insertion of a memory stick and/or CD/DVD disks when said media contain said photo files. Instead of the autoplay offering photo options to choose from, Windows simply opens up the memory stick and or CD/DVD disks and displays its content. If both photo and video files are contained on said media, autoplay will recognize the video files and will offer up the video program options but will again fail to recognize any photo files - normally autoplay will show Mixed Content and will present both photo and video program options to choose from. My other four Windows XP computers work fine so I know that there is something wrong with this particular computer. Besides reinstalling everything all over again (Windows XP and all the other programs and files) which is very time consuming, does anyone know of a way to correct this problem? Reponses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance! ... (more) |

Whenever my Windows XP PC sits idle for an undetermined period of time, I have a problem starting programs. For instance, Microsoft Money 2002 will display the EULA agreement like it has just been installed. If I click "I Agree", I get an error about Internet Explorer not being installed. I have discovered that if I reboot, the system works normally. Other programs display different reasons for not starting, but the end result is the same. The programs will not start without a system restart. This installation of XP has been around since the OS launched (and yes, I've installed every patch Bill has released). I do not relish the thought of a reload, but I'm beginning to run out of ideas. So far, I have tried running SpyBot, AdAware, Registry Mechanic, and other detection packages to no avail. I get the standard array of spyware that one normally encounters, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm running Norton Antivirus and that doesn't detect any known infections. I have been extraordinarily careful with this system in an effort to keep it pristine, so it is very frustrating to come to this pass. If anyone has ANY input on what could be causing this, I'd be eternally grateful. ... (more) |
