I recently installed WinXP pro on my computer and it has been working well since installation. Today when booting up the machine I am receiving the following error "UNMOUNTABLE DISK VOLUME Stop: 0X000000ED". How can I resolve this error without loosing any data from the machine. Please advise.

Which resource is it referring to? AFAIK, everything on the target computer is configured correctly and it can request assistance and I can connect. I have been attempting to install an application on my PC, it's a microsoft CBT for W2k Networking exam 70-216, the first splash screen comes up but when I click on the install package, nothing happens. Looking in Task Manager the Setup is running, albeit not doing anything, and remains in this state until I kill it or shut the pc down.

I have run services msc, disabled the windows install, reboot, cleaned out the temp folders, rebooted, enamled the windows installer and rebooted then tried again, to no avail. ... (more)

I'm not even sure if this is a Windows issue or not. I recently installed a new motherboard and processor and now everytime I leave my computer (gone to work/bed) when I return it appears to have restarted. This is quite a problem because I have programs that I leave running most of the time and this is not allowing them to run when intended.

click on each tab and check the settings. See if anything there looks like it might be causing the erratic behavior. Then, on the last tab, 'hardware', click on the troubleshooting icon. I went through some of it, the usb option, but I don't know what kind of mouse you have. You may need to uninstall, then reinstall your mouse.
I check the MS KB for articles, but only came up with results for laptop computers.

I recently reformatted my hard drive because of one too many viruses. it was causing every program I ran to lock up and stop functioning. These viruses were blaster, sasser, randex, welchia, korgo. I used norton antivirus to clean them out and internet security to keep them out. Since reinstalling windows, I'm having the same problem with my programs locking up. I have a feeling, and it's told me on a few occasions, that it is a problem with the RPC (remote procedure call). Any ideas how I can fix this guys? I first noticed the problem at least a day before the new DirectX patch went into my system, so I don't think that's the source of the problem (though I uninstalled it as a test, and the problem remains).

okay i upgraded XP about a week ago. I ended up putting about 128 new memory on my board because it was freezing up and i was told it was because i didnt have enough. Things were fine, up until i got some bad memory and so my computer screen would freeze up for like 3 seconds then the monitor would like refresh and then make a beep sound. and come back on. well i was researching and saw it was like a memory issue where it had to refresh or something like that. i swithc out to some good memory and a couple of days later it did it again. this time it went off and on three times really quicky. i dont know what to do. i restarted it again but it seems to be fine! it just started all of thist stuff when i upgraded to XP. here is my motherboard type i am running on SDRAM but i can run on DDR as well on my board. please let me know thank u so so so much.

Hi Ted, I have an MSI KT3 Ultra as well, and had a similar problem. If you are trying to hookup to the front USB connectors rather than the back it may be your case. I have an Antec case which would only support USB 1.1, I was able to e-mail them and they sent me a replacement module for my case and now USB 2.0 works great. Hope that is your porblem too. Contact your case manufacturer they may be able to help if that is the case.

I am trying use label software to create labels from my address book.

I can get the first address ok, but inserting the 2nd address onto the next label changes the first address to read the same as the 2nd, inserting the 3rd address changes the first and second to read the same as the 3rd and so on until I'd end up with a page of labels all showing the address on the last label. ... I just system restored my computer (Windows XP) to a system restore point due to a couple of viruses having messed with my system. This didn't solve my problem so I wanted to undo the restoration, but it won't let me. I also tried restoring to the most recent resore point but that failed too. Why is this happening and is there anything I can do about it? I think it may be to do with system restore having changed some file names in the system32 folder??

long story short.... corrupted win XP, reinstalled on same HD with [Windows2] folder(but without prior desktop icons, etc..) I found out later that I could have tried to Repair and saved all data and links.
