whenever i go to random internet sites or hyp-links (especially--hotmail), the site locks up and says in top left hand corner not responding and i have to close it. | Hi there, I have Windows XP Professional running on my computer. It is a Celeron 366M. The problem I have is that every time I reset the computer the XP clock resets to midnight January 1st 1601. I have checked in my CMOS when I boot, and it has the correct time and date stored, somehow it just doesn't get that information to Windows XP. | Well, it is me again. These are the things I have done already...as an update. I have ran stinger and it found the blaster virus...then i went to the site u gave me and used the tools to fix that. I went out and bough spyware, antivirus program. I have enabled my firewall. Now I am back to the same problem I started out with...my computer wants to start onto the internet without being prompted...when u click cancel...it is a matter of seconds before it tries again. Also...even now as we speak...I am obviously online...and when I try to open my MSN messenger...it tells me I am not connected to the internet...why is it doing that? I feel my computer has taken up a mind of its own...lol. Hi there! I have a serious problem with my windows explorer. It must crash around 4 times a day or something... It always happens when i try to copy-cut/paste a video, opens a video or just single click on it to view it's properties or whatever. I tried to disable the left pane so the preview window in "Details" doesn't appear anymore, cause I thought that was the problem, but it still does it in "windows classic style". So I don't really know what's the problem now. It's getting really annoying! That's the only problem I got with my Windows XP Pro as of now. Other than that, it works great. | Long story short...device manager is empty, computer will not create a restore point (missing files) and I can not download system updates or use automatic updates (disabling or uninstalling my Norton AV altogether does not help). Plug and Play is enabled and running on automatic. I brought it in to have it fixed and they took off about 300 pieces of spyware and the like but still no device manager. I took it back and told them to erase the harddrive and reinstall XP. They reinstalled XP over top the original insallation but I didn't quibble as I now (then) had a populated device manager. I got it home set-up my internet to find a driver for my sound card only to rediscover that my device manager was again empty. Hi, I recently reformatted my hard drive, then reinstalled Windows XP. The formatting went well, all files were successfully copied/installed, and Windows runs fine. Only thing is that I cannot get it to pick up my cable modem connection anymore. I run my ethernet to a wireless router, which is connected to the cable modem. We recently had an outage where our office was off the internet for a day and a half. While 'offline' I got many complaints from many users about TERRIBLE performance in MS-Word. I was wondering it it was unable to authenticate the license and was either : a) recursively trying often enough to seriously impact system performance -or- b) running in some sort of 'hobbled' mode because it could not verify license. Ok, so I have tried just about everything I can think of and have had my dad do the same. He came up with a good idea to restore the computer so it acted like it did a couple days ago, but before he thought of that, he did something that deleted all past checkpoints... Please help!! Now I am very frustrated. I just typed my whole message and went to post and my session had "timed out" I had to go re sign in and now my whole message is gone and i have to retype it....here goes. I have a nice computer; Pentium 4 2.54 GHz processor, 248 MB RAM, 56k v.92 modem. Still has about 93% free disk space. It is responding sluggish. When I click the mouse button too much time passes before the computer responds. What ever the problem is is very evident when I go on line. It takes a good 5 minutes for a web page to load. When I tried to load a page with Adobe pdf file on it, my web software completely stopped responding--every time I attempted to access the page. Per the web tech support's advice, I completely dumped and reinstalled my web software, after we had exhausted all of the normal trouble shooting exercises for a slow moving computer. I came to realize that it may be an XP or hardware problem on my computer. I run my virus software frequently--everything there is fine. I defrag my computer often--everything there is fine. I went through all of the diagnosis' and computer check ups I could understand to run on my own. I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. I know something is definitely wrong, because my computer used to be much faster. I am pretty naive with computer problems, so I could really use some helpful advice--in simpletons terms please.
