sfc /scannow gives me an odd problem (by =?Utf-8?B?RGFuIE0=?= on 8 Jun 2004, 1 reply)
I have a user who is unable to open IE on a system. When I log on as admin, I have no problem getting to IE (I am typing this from the system now) but when I log on using his profile, IE will not open. Some other programs are having odd reactions as well... Ad-Aware will run a scan, but when it finds ads, it plays the warning sound and then closes, and Outlook opens, and connects to the Exchange 2K server, but when you try to open an email from the displayed list, it freezes. Having gone through the subject lines, I thought running sfc /scannow might help. I went to http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html to read all the instructions, and then tried running sfc. The problem is, with the disk in, and the correct drive in both HKLM\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\SourcePath and ....\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SourcePath, I still get a pop-up box telling me to insert a disk, but it is asking for the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD. Now, for obvious reasons, I don't have a Service Pack 2 CD, so I am wondering what I need to do next?? I have taken a screen-shot, saved to .jpg if this will help anyone, but I am totally lost.

Thanks,
JDM ... (more)
