This message is associated with "system recovered after serious error" that appears after boot-up. I have checked device manager as suggested in Knowledge Base articles but all devices show as okay. Can anybody enlighten me about what this message is referring to? The message only seems to appear after the system has been turned off for awhile. Doesn't appear after restarts. ... (more) |

I have a new HP system that had XP Home preinstalled. Since, using XP verus 2000, I have been very disappointed in the reliability. I leave my system on continuously, and many times Outlook Express freezes up and will not terminate, which requires a reboot, and on 2 occussions, all inbox emails were erased. Also, when I naviate to Windows Explorer, it does not list the compltete directory tree. This also requires a reboot to get it to work again. These are the main two areas, however i have had other applications freeze and XP will or cannot end their task, a hard reboot is required. ... (more) |

Attempting to access HTML Help files for ANY application via the Help menu causes the the following message to appear: "Microsoft® HTML Help Executable has encountered a problem". Frequently, the application crashes after displaying a "ThisCrapApp has encountered a problem" message. Double-clicking on the relevant *.CHM file also causes help to crash with the "Microsoft® HTML Help Executable has encountered a problem" message. If I search for a topic in Microsoft Help and Support Center and then click a link in the Search Results pane, I again get "Microsoft Help and Support Center has encountered a problem". Searching Microsoft's web site only returned one hit relating to help crashing in the Scribble application, part of Visual Studio .NET, which was caused by the # (hash) character being in a filepath.
