Hello, I recently upgraded from Win "ME" to "XP" home version. Now whenever I try to look at an e-mail, the computer attempts to start up "Office 2000" (which I've never had on my computer as far as I know) and gets to a point where it asks for a disk to complete the process (I don't have a disk for it..... did Office 2000 get on my computer when I loaded Win XP ?) Any way, I can't look at or send e-mails, and I can't access the address book. I looked in the "Add/Remove programs", and sure enough, there is Office 2000 (an appx 140 megabyte file), but again I don't know how it got there. Can you help ? ... (more) |

When I start up my computer Windows XP will load and everything seems fine except none of my printers load. Starting this up "manually" allows me to then start up Print Spooler in the Services which then recognizes the printers. What I do not understand, and would appreciate some help with, is why the RPC Database "stops itself" when I re-boot (either cold or warm reboot) the machine. Had a bit of a storm last night, and it appears that my power strip may not have done the job. 7955 appeared to be hung in the PF recovery reboot - the little progress block just kept cycling and cycling and getting nowhere. Various reboots (last known, etc) appear to be hanging, and a safe mode boot lists a screen+ of the drivers and then just hangs/loops. Don't know the internal processes, but I'm guessing that when loading drivers (as listed on the screen) there is a process which verifies/queries each related device. I fired up one of my backup machines (ME, not XP) using the same keyboard and mouse, and found on boot up that the mouse had failed. Replaced the mouse, and the ME machine came up just fine. ...
