Before you go replacing drives, XP no longer supports "3-mode" floppies, which causes this error message occasionally. If you format the floppy on a non-XP machine, then try it again, it usually works. ... (more) |

hi, i've recently been experiencing difficultly when i attempt to open random word documents with microsoft word, .exe files, .jpegs, and .mpegs, coincidently they all appear with either blue or green filenames, i've searched many places but have not been able to understand what the blue or green text filenames mean. i planned to just do a system restore but i have no store points. recently i ran ad-adware and i believe i may have deleted a twain file or somethin as on the restart i got an error of a missing twain file. im lost as what to do and why certian word documents, .jpegs, .exe, and .mpegs are affected and not all are inaccessible. any help will do. thanks, pete ... My volume icon is missing from the taskbar. When I go to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties," Ithe "Place volume icon in the taskbar" is checked, so I unchecked it, hoping that I can recheck it and get the icon back in my taskbar. However, I get this message: "Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel." I went to the control panels, and then add/remove programs, and then searched the change/remove programs and add windows components, but I don't see a way to fix this problem. | It just clicks and shuts off. It shuts off before I get into logon screen. It will only stay on in safe mode but now I can't get safe mode all the way up. I get a black screen with safe mode written in all four corners nothing else. I can move my mouse but have no taskbar. I've tried with networking and command prompt, still no luck. That's why I'm trying to get to a command prompt. If I can do anything there. Someone sent me a msconfig or driver fix in the recovery console area. But now my recovery console is asking for a password that was never set up. the first time i ran recovery console it didn't ask for one. I ran chkdsk \r i think. But it didn't change anything.
