explorer blocked, then get error msg

message from =?Utf-8?B?dG9uaSBoZW1zb24=?= on 1 Jun 2004
Hi - I am unable to open folders in windows explorer. I open My Computer,
click or right click to open C:, get a list of folders. Trying to open any folder
causes an error message that says windows encountered an error and must
close the program. Note, this problem doesn't affect my E drive (removable).

I have a graphics program that has a browse function, an exact mimic of
explorer, it also gets the error message and the whole program closes.

Every possible way of sneaking in has been tried and is thwarted. I do not
have the option of reinstalling XP to repair it - only a total reinstall which would
delete everything on my hard drive which is not an option. Everything was working
fine until installing critical updates. Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

try creating a new profile/user account in windows xp and see if you can browse. if you can browse using windows explorer, there could be a corruption in your profile old profile.

to get all your data, you need to put the new profile/user account into the administrator's group, take control of your old user profile c:\docs and settings\profile name\ copy all your my documents over to new user profile and any short cuts from the desktop folder.

let me know how it goes.
