error message no pagefile

message from Headtheball on 4 Jun 2004
This has only just started happening but when I boot up, before I get to the
desktop I get a message that says I have no pagefile and that I have either
not got one or that I have set it too low. I then went into
system>>advanced>>Performance settings>>advanced and then set my pagefile
to minimum 500mb and maximum 1534mb under custom size.
I then get a message saying that if the initial size is less than 1023mb
then it might not be able to create debugging or something like that. Anyway
when I accept the new settings and reboot I get a message saying as before,
no pagefile, so windows creates a minimal configuration. What does it all
mean and how do I fix it?

Hi Will and thanks,
I have read all of these before but none of them seem to answer my question.
when I boot I get a message saying that I have no pagefile
when I try to correct this I get a message saying that windows has created a
temporary pagefile
when I alter the pagefile size I get a message telling me that there is
already a pagefile, do I want to replace it with a pagefile>>>> I say yes,
it tells me the machine needs to reboot for the changes to take effect. When
the machine reboots I get a message saying that I have no pagefile or it is
set too low and so the cycle goes on.

I have tried every combination, windows managed which sets the minimum pF to
256mb
No PF
and custom, I have set this to1534mb min and max but I still get a message
that says there is a problem with the pf configuration and that windows has
set a temp pf.

Hi,

If you have faster user switching enabled and don't use it, i would remove it, it uses up the pagefile.

also set your size say minimum your ram size max 2.5 times ram.
then don't reboot, load up explorer, tools, folder options, then unhide system folders.
locate your pagefile.sys, located root of c and delete it.

the cause could be a corrupted pagefile.sys

thanks

Thanks again lavan, you explain things in such a clear way, sometimes it is
hard to understand some of the jargon.
it, it uses up the pagefile.
