deleted database file

is there a way to restore a sql database file that was accidently deleted. I do not have a back-up file to restore from-but I thought there must be some way to recover a deleted file. You see the cops do it on TV!!!!
The last back up made on this computer was January, so I hope I don't have to go back that far and recreate everything.
I sure hope someone can help me.
