why do i get messages that says "this file does not have a program asociated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel?"

It means exactly what it says...your computer does not know what program to
use to open the files that you are clicking on. If you don't know which
program should open the files you are clicking on, it would be advisable for
you to leave things alone. You can seriously screw up your file
associations by playing with them when you do not know what you are doing.
