can't able download pdf files from net |

I am trying to download pdf files as most of applications are in pdf format. but i can't able to downlaod them. I have acrobat reader version 6 in my laptop. It comes as a blank window with a cross on the top left hand side
please help me by providing a solution for it

Hi,
Change the behavior of Adobe Acrobat. Open the program from the start menu,
click edit/preferences, then click on options. Uncheck the option for it to
open in the web browser, see if that helps.
