Windows search feature locks up |

I posted this question before but I can't reply, I keep getting error messages so I will post it again. I can't search for documents, my computer locks up and doesn't even attempt to search anything. It shows that the search is not responding and I have to end the task. It used to work and now it doesn't anymore. I did a defrag and error scan and it still will not perform the search. Would anyone know what can be causing this or do I have to contact MS support? Thanks
