What have I done now?

message from =?Utf-8?B?am5kZml0eg==?= on 2 Jun 2004
I loaded System Mechanic on my laptop the other day. I asked it to find duplicate files. It did, and I apparently deleted my NTLDR. I do not have the Windows XP start up disk. It came already installed on my laptop. I am currently typing on our desktop computer. Please help.

P.S. Error message is: NTLDR is missing

Here's how to fix it but you're going to need an XP disc.

AFAIK a borrowed disc should work. I don't think it would be a violation of
the EULA if used just to fix this problem. If I am wrong I'm sure someone
will be pleased to correct me. :-D

Did you not read the warning message before deleting "duplicate files"?

"Caution: This tool is intended to search your system for duplicate files.
Not all (and possibly not most) of the files that are found are candidates for removal.
Be sure to carefully scrutinize each set of duplicate files before making the decision
to remove any of them. It is *always* recommended that you have a current backup
of your system before performing any intensive operations such as contained in System Mechanic."

If you do not have a Windows XP CD, then
you'll need to go out and purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP
and proceed with a "Repair Install".
