Win. XP Pro. SP1 pauses for 40 seconds at welcome screen |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?VGVsbHVz?= on 30 May 2004 |
When Windows XP Professional SP1 starts up, it pauses at the blue welcome screen for about 40 seconds, and then continues without any problems. During the 40 second pause there is no disk activity.
I have installed all XP updates and I have a firewall, virus protection, and no spy-/adware. Have tried Bootvis. And I formatted my hard drive a few days ago so I only have a few programs installed.
Any ideas?

* Have you installed any hardware with drivers that aren't XP-certified?
That might cause problems.
* Have you re-installed your system from scratch? If so, make sure you
install all the manufacturer supplied drivers for the motherboard and
devices.
For example, the boot time on my DELL Dimension 4300 without the Intel
Application Accelerator (provided by DELL) is about 3 1/2 mins. With
the IAA software installed, boot time is under 20 seconds.
Please post a follow-up with the results.

All my drivers are XP-certified.
And yes I did a re-install from scratch but I'm using drivers supplied with XP. (I just let the XP installation take care of motherboard drivers etc.)
Also I used msconfig to run a diagnostic start-up (with almost no drivers activated), that didn't help.
Ideas?

Since you said you reinstalled, I would most certainly think about
installing the hardware specific drivers that the manufacturer provided.
You didn't post any info on your machine, but I suspect either the
manufacturer of the system, or individual components would have updates.
For me the biggest example to not rely solely on WinXP was what I posted
earlier:
