WINDOWS XP NOT RECOGNIZING CD PLAYER

THIS IS A DELL DIMENSION DESKTOP THAT HAS THE BUILT-IN CD PLAYER IN IT AND IT USED TO WORK FINE. NOW THE CD DRIVE WONT OPEN WHEN YOU PUCH THE BUTTON AND THE D: DRIVE DISAPPERED. ANY IDEAS??

the drivers will not effect the power side..aslong as it has power it will
open ...atleast in all of my experience

first change the p4 power cable to another p/s outlet and if that doesn't
work get a new cd drive they are cheap!
