WinXP Help files will not launch |
| message from Matrix on 31 May 2004 |
I am running Microsoft Windows XP version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-
1633: Service Pack 1.)
When I click on START/HELP & SUPPORT nothing happens! If I am in
Windows Explorer and go to the top toolbar and click on HELP/HELP &
SUPPORT CENTRE, nothing happens.
If I navigate to C:\WINDOWS\HELP and double click on any of the chm or
hlp files they open up correctly and I think these are the files that
should open when I select the other two links mentioned previously.
I have checked the file association under Folder Options and for chm it
states "CHM opens with Microsoft HTML Help Executable" and shows the
application used to perform the action as "C:\WINDOWS\hh.exe" %1.
For hlp it states "HLP opens with Microsoft Help" and shows the
application used to perform the action as "C:\WINDOWS\System32
\winhlp32.exe %1.
Please can anyone help.
Thanks

Thanks Will. I have tried all of those and still no luck. When I
click, for instance, on START/HELP & SUPPORT I can hear the hard disk
working as if about to launch the help centre but then the noise stops
and nothing launches. Like I said I have carried out the suggestions
given, including a reinstall of the help centre files but without
success?!
