Virus Damage |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?amhhcw==?= on 2 Jun 2004 |
I have been unlucky enough to get infected with Backdoor.Tofger and although Norton deleted it on arrival I am unable to restore my Internet Explorer homepage - it's stuck on some random search engine site whith a large link to "Spyware Removal". I have followed all of the instructions on the Microsoft, Norton and Sophos Websites but cannot find any of the downloaded entries in the registry. I have found the offending internet address in the registry entries for Internet Explorer start page, default page etc but as soon as they are changed back to my home page and the regedit is closed they revert to the suspect site. Has anyone any idea as to where the downloaded virus files can be and how to permenantly change my home page back? Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.

Update your antivirus.
Download, install, and UPDATE the following programs:
Spybot-S&D http://spybot.safer-networking.de/
AND (it's AND, not OR)
Ad-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Disconnect Internet.
Restart computer in Safe Mode (see Help(F1) for more information), and
scan it using all these programs, antivirus first.
Use Spybot-S&D to fix your homepage.
Good Luck!

Clean it up, repair it and ready your machine to prevent further infections:
Suggestions on what you can do to secure/clean your PC. I'm going to try
and be general, I will assume a "Windows" operating system is what is
being secured here.
