Task Bar

The task bar at the bottom right hand of the screen normally hides programsthat are not currently being used. When I try to expend the task bar to click on an icon that is hidden, it retracts before I can access the icon. What can be the cause of this and the solution? Your help and comments will be appreciated. Thanks, Lidia
