System will not boot due to disk error |
| message from Bri on 8 Jun 2004 |
I have a computer running WinXP, no virus found, system
degredation progressive over last few weeks. Booted into
Safe mode to run virus scan, rebooted and tried to
reinstate system restore and received "blue screen of
death" for my troubles. Now the system will not boot due
to disk error. Is reinstall the only solution?
thanks

Hi
Can you please post the Stop Code from the BSOD? It may point towards your
problem.

Thanks for the reply Will,
The BSOD offered the suggestion to reboot the system and
I did not get the Stop Code. Upon reboot I received
the 'disk error' message press CAD to restart, but it
brings me back to the same screen 'disk error'
This machine is at another location.
thanks

It sounds like your hard drive is having a major problem. Try
downloading the drive manufacturers' diagnostics to check for errors -
if you can download it from a different computer, that is. The program
will typically create a bootable floppy disk with the diagnostic program
on it. Boot to the floppy then run the tests. Write down any failure
codes and also the serial number and model of the hard drive in
question. If you do see a failure code(s), go back to the mfg. website
and check to see if the drive is still under warranty. Good luck.
