System locks with a high speed connection? |
| message from =?Utf-8?B?S2Vu?= on 9 Jun 2004 |
I am a novice computer user. I can access the internet through AOL and a dialup connection. However, if I connect a cable or DSL line, my system locks when I click either the AOL, Yahoo, or IE icon? This problem started about 6 weeks ago. I have already run the repair of XP with Dell Tech Support using the installation disk. And I have fully updated Norton Antivirus 2002 and have run a virus search. Also, I have ZoneAlarm 4.5 (I had ZoneAlarm 5.0, but the discussion group stated that it had an issue with AOL 9.0.) I would appreciate any suggestions. Otherwise, I guess my only choice is to reinstall XP.

You may want to consider re-installing XP. I don't know about AOL ver.9.0,
but earlier versions were a nightmare. I don't know all the details, but I
remember being told that AOL literally overwrites all communication settings
to suit itself. I was also told that uninstalling it would be an exercise in
futility, as changes it had made to the registry and other files / settings
would be left behind. Word to the wise - avoid AOL entirely. Best of
Luck....
