System Speaker beeps when adjusting volume in Windows XP

message from =?Utf-8?B?b21lZ2Ffdjc=?= on 10 Jun 2004
Whenever I adjust my volume, the internal speaker in my box beeps (as it would on startup or in BIOS), as opposed to the default WinXP 'ding'. This system beep also comes through the speakers.

I have tried setting the sound scheme back to Windows default, with no avail. I checked to see if the sound that is supposed to result was not inadvertantly removed/deleted and that it still plays. All the correct codecs are in place. I have also searched the registry for anything that looked incorrect. I can't rule out that it is a registry-related problem, but nothing odd stood out. Aside from reformatting (or pulling the internal speaker), not quite sure where to go from here. I've scoured the web end to end and found no solutions, which brings me here.

Thanks in advance for any support!

Your motherboard and sound card may not be communicating
properly. Check to make sure that the contacts are clean
and that your computer is not over taken by dust, this
can often affect the way a computer performs

You, Sir, get two big thumbs up. Thank you very much for this solution to one very annoying little problem... one small registry modification and I was on my way to working out the next problem =]

Geesh, I referred someone else in this NG to Kelly's Corner earlier today for Taskbar Repair Toolkit Plus... I practically stepped on my own solution in my journey to find someone else's. Thanks again, hopefully someday I can return the favor.
