SP1 Access Denied on Install

message from Michael on 1 Jun 2004
I'm trying to install SP1 on my Windows XP system that I
recently upgrated from win2k sp4. When doing the upadte
here are the last few lines of the svcpack.log file. I
figure there is an issue with the registery but I used
regmon and couldn't see anything wrong. I had some
underbuffer errors but that is all I could see.

INF_REGISTRY Failed
***
Failed Deleting C:\WINNT\system32\jvminst.tmp 2
***
Access is denied.

Service Pack 1 installation did not complete.

Hi,

You will need to check the service pack setup log (C:\Windows\svcpack.log). if in the log you see a line that points to the following HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{5B9169C0-DB65-42AA-A38A-0726846AAEB3}

Start ,Run,Regedit go to hkey_localmachine\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\windowsUpdate \auto update\resetau
Right click on ResetAU and properties, need to make sure that the Administrators group and System account have full access for the key this registry key and those contained below it.

If your on NTFS need to make sure that the temp location where all the sp1 files are extracted to have full access for system and administrators

thanks

lavan
