System Information...

message from Mike on 30 May 2004
When trying to open System Information, I just get a quick change of the
cursor to an hourglass & then nothing.
I was able to open & scan through a command prompt, which I hope was just as
effective, but why won't it open?
Running XP Home, 2.4GHz Celeron, 512MB RAM.
Thanks-

Does Task Manager (or other system operation) exhibit the same behavior?
If so, here's a frequent post from Bruce Chambers that may offer clues...

The type of behavior you describe, which also often applies to
Taskmgr.exe and Regedit.exe, is typical behavior of more than one
virus/worm, the three below being the most common:

W32.Klez

W32.Yaha
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.yaha.c@mm.html

W32.Spybot.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

Because many of the newer viruses and worms, such as the
Spybot mentioned above, can disable antivirus applications whose
definitions aren't kept up-to-date, try using one or more of the free
on-line scanners to double-check your system.
